Photo Story: Kolkata: The Kids are All Right
38 images Created 4 Dec 2011
Sudder Street is the neighborhood made known to the world by Mother Teresa's work with the 'poorest of the poor'.
The kids we know from the photos of Mother Teresa's work and the movie Slumdog Millionaire have a side to their lives most people don't see. Visiting them with Leah gave me access to their personal lives.
One of the most profound things from the time I spent on Sudder Street was I witnessed firsthand the westerner's role in perpetuating Kolkata's poverty.
The cultural differences prevent westerners from fixing the poverty in Kolkata. But like Leah did, we can learn something about ourselves from these kids.
Here are some photos from my two-weeks rounding Sudder Street with Leah and the kids.
